The Office
Differentiated concept creates common space at the side of individual areas.
Carmela Gross's study of colors breaks seriousness.

Located at Avenida Faria Lima, in São Paulo, this law firm occupies the entire floor of a free plan commercial building designed by Itauplan (PROJETO DESIGN 209, junho de 1997). However, it is not a solemn space, with traditional fashion interiors or the English style of former courts.
Architects Lua and Pedro Nitsche, responsible for the work, embraced a differentiated conceptualization, disrupting with seriousness and going towards customers' expectation - attorneys operating in up-to-date segments, such as economic law and international transactions. From the consensus between authors and customers a new idea about offices came to light. In opposition to the classic image, the young architects have developed what they call "democratic office": a central space - for secretaries, trainees, file and library - surrounded by small individual rooms, of similar sizes. There is no hierarchical relationship reflected in the area ocuppied by the professionals: even the major attorney has a standard room, similar to any other.
Rooms are distributed next to the set of frames, taking advantage of the natural light. Their sizes were modulated by the existing set of frames. The wood and glass partition panels received Venetian blinds. Closed and stripped-down, almost monastery cells - to use a strong image - the attorneys' rooms invite the concentration necessary for the individual work; on the other hand, the common use nucleus and meeting rooms (three) lead to acquaintanceship.
The project prioritizes common areas, changing some habits, like the accumulation of individual files. Most books and files are in the central nucleus, at the side of the administration, secretaries and trainees. The furniture, both of work as of file, was put perpendicularly to the circulation area. So, in the central space two parallel circulations take shape, close to the room doors.
At the two extremities, bathrooms: in addition to the original ones two other were created close to the entrance.
The space chromatic study was developed by Carmela Gross, one of the most important Brazilian plastic artists nowadays. The space where colors interfere more is the reception, which occupies the hall of elevators, expanding the total area of the office. A silver curved panel separates the entrance from the work areas. In addition to this color, blue, red and yellow were used.
Another office designed by the architects' peer for the same customers is under conclusion phase; in this case associated with cariocas attorneys. The space, located at Avenida Rio Branco, Rio de Janeiro downtown, provides continuity to the concept of "democratic office".
